Here we explain how to apply for a change of name deed for adults and children. You may want a change of name for example, after a divorce.
How To Change Your Name After Getting Divorced
If you would like to change your surname following divorce or under any other circumstances then we will prepare a Change of Name Deed for a fixed fee of £200.00 plus VAT for an adult.
You may also be required to enrol the name change in the Royal Courts of Justice, the cost to do this is not included within our fixed fee and would be at an additional cost to you.
If you wish to use this service, please be aware you will need to bring this fee to your initial interview, along with photographic proof of identification, proof of your address, and proof of any previous changes of name.
Fixed Fee Change of Name Deed for Children
If you would like to change your child’s name then we will prepare a Change of Name Deed for a minimum fee of £250.00 plus VAT, provided there is no dispute with the other parent of the child regarding the change of name. If further work is needed to be undertaken by us including correspondence needed to get permission from anyone else with Parental Responsibility for the child, we will provide you with a quote for our costs to undertake this work, the quote will be based on our hourly rate.
If the change of name is not agreed by the other parent then it is much more difficult to achieve and can often require an application to the Court. If you wish to make such an application we can provide you with our best estimate of costs based on the circumstances of your case.
You may also be required to enrol the name change in the Royal Courts of Justice, the cost to do this is not included within our fixed fee and would be at an additional cost to you.
If you wish to use this service, please be aware you will need to bring the full fixed fee to your initial interview, along with photographic proof of your child’s identification, namely Passport or Birth Certificate, proof of your identification, proof of your address, and proof of any previous changes of your child’s name.
