When you are looking to apply for a job to join an organisation, it is always good to be able to hear from current staff on what they say about working for the firm and doing their job role.
We ask our staff to provide their experience so that we can share this with people looking at applying for a job at Crombie Wilkinson Solicitors.
We are therefore pleased to be able to share these blogs and quotes written by our staff, talking about their job role, working at the firm and career progression at Crombie Wilkinson Solicitors.
Here are some quotes from staff members about why they work at Crombie Wilkinson Solicitors and their career journey with us:
Amy Mills – Associate Solicitor
What it means to be an Associate at Crombie Wilkinson
“When I applied to be an Associate at Crombie Wilkinson, I really did not know if my application would be successful or not, but I wanted to put myself forward and see if I could be part of this team that helps make decisions on ways to improve the firm. When I called my husband with the good news that my application had been successful, I was really proud of myself and eager to see what this new journey as part of my career at Crombie Wilkinson would be.
Very soon after becoming an Associate, I was invited to my first Associate meeting, along with the other Associates and Senior Associate in the firm, to meet with our Managing Director Duncan Morter. Around this time, I was also asked to join some of the firms ongoing project groups, which had been formed to break down the firm’s larger strategy plan.
I had assumed that these meetings and project groups would perhaps be a box ticking exercise, but this could not have been further from the truth. In these meetings, the staff, whatever job role you are in, are asked to actively contribute to the discussion. Our opinions are then listened to, and plans put into action.
To give a direct example, in an initial meeting I attended, we were asked for ideas on why clients may choose not to respond to our feedback questionnaire. We came up with suggestions, and as a group decided to revise the feedback questionnaire, and together came up with changes we agreed upon. The new feedback questionnaire was then launched, and we have a further meeting scheduled to discuss the outcome of this. This has been a very satisfying process.
To know that my voice and opinions are not only listened to, but sought after and actioned, is a really satisfying part of my job, and feels like I am contributing to and making a difference towards the firm.”
Sheree Wraith - HR & Development Manager
"I previously worked for a law firm in Leeds for over 20 years as HR & Operations Manager.
Due to my previous background in a law firm, Crombie Wilkinson was a firm that I was aware of and I was really excited to be given the opportunity to work for the firm and get back into a legal environment. I started at the firm in October 2020 as HR Manager. Initially my role was to cover a colleague’s maternity leave, after 5 months I was offered a permanent role as Development Manager which began in September 2021.
Fast forward another 6 months and I am now both HR & Development Manager and also Head of Support Services, managing a team of administration assistants who provide support within reception and to all areas of the business.
The best thing about working for Crombie Wilkinson is the people I work with on a daily basis. Working in the HR team means I get to speak to members of staff from all areas of the business on a daily basis and everyone is so supportive of each other and willing to go out of their way to help each other out. My role as HR & Development Manager means that I work closely with the Directors and other Senior Managers on various projects as we continue to strive for excellence in our service levels to our clients and continue to make Crombie Wilkinson an amazing place to work."
Lucy Skaife - Operations Assistant & Support Team Leader
"I started at the firm in 2016 as a receptionist. Over the years I have been fortunate enough to be offered various opportunities to progress my career within the firm.
No matter what route I decided to choose I was supported and helped along by my colleagues. I was offered the position of Operations Assistant in December 2019 and now do this role alongside my Support Team Leader position.
The staff at the firm are what makes the job rewarding. I am lucky enough to work alongside a team of people who are hardworking and always supportive of each other."
Sarah Edwards – Marketing Manager & Associate
"I started my journey with Crombie Wilkinson Solicitors in 2006 when I became a consultant to the firm to look after their marketing activity. For many years we worked collaboratively to make sure that we were delivering on the branding, advertising, events and other marketing activities we prepared for and planned for each year.
As the firm grew and expanded, I was employed full-time by the firm as Marketing Manager in 2018, taking a more active role in decision making and working even more closely with the management support team and the Directors on the strategy for the firm.
As part of this transition, I have been able to adapt my knowledge and skills to the benefit of both the firm and my continued career progression. Being part of the team helps drive momentum and ideas and ensures that we can react to opportunities as they come along. I have been able to improve my people management skills, and my own training needs as part of my annual performance reviews. It is great to work as part of a supportive and encouraging team.
I was very proud to be awarded with Associate status in 2020 as part of the first year of the new Career Progression Programme launched in 2012, one of only a few staff who were not legal advisors to gain this accolade. I enjoy being an ambassador for the firm and inspiring others to see what they can achieve alongside doing my day to day job."
Hayley Ramsey – Paralegal, Support Team Leader & Associate
"Since starting at Crombie Wilkinson as a secretary back in December 2007, I have undertaken a variety of roles within the firm and been given the opportunity to grow and progress. I was proud to be offered an Associate position in 2020 as part of the firm’s staff development programme, and now hold the role of Support Team Leader and Associate within our Family Team.
I have found working at Crombie Wilkinson to be very rewarding and feel I am valued for my hard work. We have an amazing team who go over and above to help and support both our clients and our staff."
