We offer the full spectrum of legal services for Doctors and GP Practices.

As well as being able to give tailored advice to GPs on personal matters such as wills, tax planning, moving home and family matters, we provide commercial and proactive advice on issues affecting the working lives of GPs in GP Practices.

This includes:

Succession planning is vitally important to secure the future of the GP Practice, and to ensure that partners who wish to retire are able to do so. We can advise on the legal and financial implications of retiring partners, and new partners wishing to buy in to the practice.

Partnership Agreements are necessary to govern the agreed way in which the practice will operate, and tend to go out of date fairly frequently, either due to legislative changes, or the arrival and departure of partners. We can review your current partnership agreement to ensure that it is “fit for purpose” and advise on any changes that may be required.

GP Practices will sometimes need to look at their funding arrangements, either to pay out retiring partners or to fund new projects. We can advise both the practice and the bank on any refinancing that is required.

Partnership property may need to be reconfigured according to the changing needs and makeup of the partnership. We can advise on all aspects of this, be it freehold or leasehold property.

Mergers between practices are becoming increasingly common as a way to assist in delivering economies of scale, extra services for patients and the ability to bid for new contracts. We can also provide advice and assistance on the merger of two or more GP practices or the formation of a new corporate entity.

Practices will often employ a number of staff and, inevitably, from time to time employment-related issues may arise. We can advise on drawing up staff contracts, HR practices and procedures, performance management, disciplinary matters and unfair dismissal claims.
